NEW GLASGOW – Fathers and their daughters are warming up their voices as the 16th annual Sounds of Joy concert creeps closer.

Hannah Bryant practises at Donna Hargreaves’ home in Abercrombie. Bryant is among the performers, playing a duet with her father, Aaron. AMANDA JESS – THE NEWS

This year, it’s held on Father’s Day, giving families a chance to honour the father figure in their lives with song.

Longtime music teacher and organizer of the concert, Donna Hargreaves, jokes that the ultimate father is on the program – J.S. Bach.

“We had to include him,” she laughed, adding that he fathered 21 children.

Bach’s Invention #13 in A Minor is only one of the selections in the hour and a half long recital, celebrating many of Hargreaves current and previous students.

Pieces from Rose Bowl winners, Ash Lane Flute Quartet, and Scott and Sherise Jones are also among the list.

Scott, a former piano student of Hargreaves’, will be playing the ukulele.

Admission is by donation with proceeds going to Helping Hands Ministry and the Scott Jones Foundation.

The show begins at 7 p.m. at Trinity United Church on June 15.
