The 21st River John Old Time Fiddling Contest, which draws fiddlers from around the Maritimes according to organizers, is scheduled for July 22 at 7 p.m.
Held at the River John Fire Hall during River John Festival Days, the competition consists of four categories – an open class, 11 years old and under, 12-17 years old and 60 years of age and over.
Trophies and cash awards are presented to the first, second and third winners in each class as well as the contestant with the overall highest marks and the Pictou County contestant with the highest marks.
Trophies are also given to the youngest and second youngest fiddlers.
Judges for this year’s competition are Fleur Mainville of New Glasgow, Lorimer Higgins from Bridgewater, and Samantha Robichaud of Moncton.
Master of ceremonies will be Rod Mackey while Stacey Read from Sackville will provide piano accompaniment.
The judges and step dancers will entertain between classes.
Doors open at 6:15 p.m.
