Steven Bowers "Beothuk Words"
It seems strange to me that Steven Bower's forth album, "Beothuk Words" was recorded in 2011 because it feels like it was just released yesterday when I hear this album that is in continual high rotation in our home.
Steven Bowers was born in Newfoundland but now lives on the other side of Canada.
He is known as a songwriter who was a finalist in 2007 and 2008 in the International Song writing Competition, a captivating performer who has East Coast Music Award nominations for his albums "Tired Light" and "Homing", as well as a producer who has twice won Producer of the Year from Music Nova Scotia for his work with others musicians but in my eyes he is best known for his co writing with incredible artists such as Dave Gunning , Ron Hynes, and Christina Martin in which his song with Martin "Comfortably Sweet" was used for an episode of "Heartland".
Beothuks were natives of Newfoundland who were present during the 15th century, who quickly became extent because of colonization and with that most of their language was lost. After reading an article about the lost tribe and language "Beothuk Words" came to be. This alternative Folk album was recorded in Port Hood by his good friend Dale Murray who has also produced incredible East Coast artists albums and is married to the incredibly talented singer songwriter Christina Martin. Some of the best studio musicians on this coast can be found on this album and I was lucky enough to be included on what is my most favourite Steven Bowers album to date.
If you do not own a copy of "Beothuk Words" I strongly suggest you go out and find a copy as it is an album that continues to reveal brilliance rotation after rotation.
