MONTREAL — Transat A.T. Inc. (TSX:TRX.A) says it had a $13.9-million net loss last quarter.
That was less red ink for the Montreal-based travel company than a year earlier, but revenue was also down by nearly 10 per cent.
Transat said the fiscal first-quarter loss was equal to 37 cents per share.
That compares with a loss of $29.4 million or 90 cents a shares a year earlier.
Transat’s revenue fell 9.7 per cent from a year before, dropping to $792.6 million due to fewer travellers and lower prices.
The company says reservations from Canada to sun destinations this quarter are similar to the record volumes it experienced last year.
But Transat says selling prices are “inferior” to what it got last year, although it can offset that with lower fuel prices, hotel costs and other expenses.
