PICTOU – Dan Marchand, whose wife, Tak, ran Tak's Thai Kitchen in Pictou, says the decision to move the restaurant to Moncton had to do with seizing an opportunity that presented itself.

"A building she was interested in came up for lease and it’d be hard to turn down," he said. "It’s in a busy growing area in downtown Moncton."

He said they've enjoyed working in Pictou, but it is seasonal and it is a bit of a struggle to keep a business going through the winter months when tourism is down.

"It’s difficult to stay ahead of the ball when you’re really working on a three- or four-month season," he said.

From a business perspective, he said, you need to be busier throughout the year.

He said the new building was a former Chinese restaurant and has a much larger kitchen.

“She was very limited in the building she had in Pictou,” he said.

That said, he knows she is going to miss her patrons from the Pictou County area.

“She had a lot of good friends,” he said. “The location was great.”

The new location in Moncton will be 1590 Mountain Road and they expect to open in February 2013.

Marchand said they hope they may see a few Pictou County faces at the New Brunswick location.

Right now Tak is in Thailand to purchase some art and supplies for the new restaurant. She won’t be back until January.

Day 3 of the Tak's Thai Kitchen saga? Maybe if they'd had this much publicity when they were open they would have had better business!
