STELLARTON – The manager of the new shopping plaza on Lawrence Boulevard in the Albion Business Park hopes to see the building full of businesses within about six months.

Global Pet Foods has already opened in one of the vacancies in the recently completed building and a physiotherapy business will be opening soon.

There is also a restaurant whose owners have said they will be coming although the deal has not been finalized, said Jason White, who is overseeing the project for owner Steve Smith, who also owns Central Supplies.

“It wouldn’t be your typical fast-food, but it wouldn’t be your fine dining sit down,” said White.

Right now the plaza is 33 per cent pre-leased and he said he is excited about the possibilities there.

“We’re just getting some of our marketing together,” he said. “It’s actually surprising the traffic that goes by Lawrence Boulevard every day.”

He said New Glasgow and the surrounding area seems to be a centralized hub for shoppers to go to and the Albion Business Park is in a prime location.

“It seems like a pretty exciting property,” he said.

Having two hardware businesses already there and the Pictou County Wellness Centre works to bring people to the area.

“If you need building supplies you’re going to be within a kilometre (of the plaza),” he said.

Depending on the size of the businesses that choose to locate there, he said the building could house anywhere from six to 12.

We have a downtown area that business owners are trying to revive, we have the Highland Square Mall that is trying to keep their businesses doors open, now we have another location trying to bring in new businesses or have existing businesses move there. Why is this happening? Moving from New Glasgow to give taxes to Stellarton????Now there might be another new restaurant moving into the new park when it is the worst business to have right now during this economic crash and they are enticing to bring in another one when the existing ones in Pictou County are having a hard time. Unbelievable ....lets have a new business park and put the other locations out of business. We are not a city like Halifax that has a population to keep many locations a convenience.

No wonder it is the only road in Stellarton that is not full of pot holes
