STELLARTON - Town council had some answers for citizens with respect to road paving and curbing on Foster and MacGregor avenues near the Pioneer Coal strip mine.
The answers come from John Chisholm of Pioneer Coal, in a letter to the town dated Oct. 5. They're in response to a letter issued in late September by Mayor Joe Gennoe.
The unpaved section of MacGregor Avenue will be paved in 2010, states the letter. That will allow time for the roadbed to settle, especially on highwall portions.
The same is said for the intersection of Foster and MacGregor. It will be paved and commissioned in 2010 to allow time for settlement. Concrete curb and sidewalk will be installed on the undisturbed portions of Foster some time in 2010, and the following year for areas of the road affected by the mine's progression.
Additionally, the letter noted that the ditches on MacGregor Avenue will be seeded in 2009, except at the intersection of the two roads. And finally, the relocated portion of Foster is expected to be built during this coming winter, "opened in 2010 and completed in 2011."
Coun. Denise Taylor wondered why the recurring issue of dust from the mine blowing about in Evansville wasn't addressed.
