NEW GLASGOW - A candlelight vigil is a solemn event, but it's an uplifting one, says a member of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
The Pictou County MADD chapter is hosting the organization's Atlantic Regional Conference this weekend at the Pictou Lodge Resort.
Among the workshops and seminars on the schedule is a vigil. It's open to the public, says MADD member Mike Higgs, and the chapter is extending an invitation for families who have had loved ones injured or killed because of a drunk driver.
"People will have a chance to share their story - it's a solemn event, but it's also uplifting for the families who get to share with people who have been through the same thing.
"There are so many victims of this in Pictou County," he said. "They're under no obligations, we just want them to come out and share that time with us."
"We'll also have some highly qualified people there," Higgs said, including specialists in victim services as well as regional and national MADD representatives.
The vigil will take place Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Pictou Lodge.
Those who wish to attend and participate in the service may RSVP by calling 759-0325 or 752-3492.
