Sutherland’s River – Achievement Day is the most important day of the 4H year.
It allows 4H members to display and demonstrate their projects, which they worked hard on all year. It allows them to have the opportunity to be evaluated and see how well they have done during the year.
On Aug. 8, more than 30 people attended the small community hall of Sutherland’s River for their annual achievement day. Organized by General Leader JoAnne Vankessel, this allowed members to have a fun-filled day while displaying their live stock and non-livestock projects. This year, the club’s projects consisted of sheep, light horse, great outdoors, rabbits, waterfowl and crafts.
The projects ranged from homemade walking sticks to sheep feeders. The leaders for these projects were Cathy Wilkinson, Mark Levy, Ann and Emily Munro.
Handing out this year’s club certificates and evaluator comments where judges Dawn Barrington Hodgson and Margaret Sutherland. Even though there is no provincial exhibition this year, the Sutherland’s club still looks forward to attending the 4H provincial qualifier day in Pictou on Sept. 7 and 8.
