Allie Bennett has been a bass player, guitar player and fiddler for some of the most incredible musicians and bands to come out of the Maritimes including; John Allan Cameron, Rita MacNeil, The Rankins, The Barra MacNeils, Natalie MacMaster, Bruce Guthro and Dave Gunning. Not only does Allie play multiple instruments he also teaches the traditional art of fiddle and guitar and has traveled the world through his music and was recognised by receiving the 2005 East Coast Music Award Musician's Achievement Award.
With 38 years of touring and being the go to side guy in the Canadian Music Industry, he is also able to lay claim to having performed on over 125 recording projects as a studio musician. It truly is no wonder that after nearly four decades Allie Bennett is showcasing his own tunes and a few songs as well with the release of a fiddle album to rave reviews in 2004 called "It's About Time" and in the summer of this year, 2013, released "Full Circle".
His second album "Full Circle", has five original fiddle tunes on the album which Bennett wrote. As well on the album are tunes written by some of Cape Breton's best known and well loved fiddlers such as Winston (Scotty) Fitzgerald who greatly influenced Allie in his playing. Allie is of course full of surprises and has added three vocal tracks to the CD having chosen songs that may not be known as standard Maritime cover songs to most listeners, but are songs that are very unique.
Two of the tracks on Bennett's latest release were recorded at Dave Gunning's Wee House of Music studio by Dave himself with the rest of the album having been recorded at Lakewind Sound Studion in Point Aconi, Cape Breton. The album is dedicated to Allie's late mother, Jessie Bennett, as well as several close musician friends who have died in recent years, namely John Allan Cameron, Jerry Holland, Dave and Donna McKeough, Raylene Rankin and Rita MacNeil.
"Full Circle" is a wonderful lively CD full of great energy and tradition.
