At the Library - Trecia Schell
This also means that the programs at most library branches are starting next week for our regular weekly reoccurring programs such as ABCs for Babies, ToddleTimes, Preschool Storytimes, Afterschool@Library and LEGO clubs. Some of our monthly programs also begin this week and next, such as Book Clubs (for Adults), Children’s Scrapbooking Club, Young Readers, Tween & Teen Readers Clubs and Friday night family movies. The handy fall programs-at-a-glance guide is available at your library now, and online at www.parl.ns.ca. All library programs are free, although space may be limited and registration is required, so please contact your local library for more information and to register, (or Library Headquarters at 755-6031).
Friday night family movies are Epic
This week’s Friday night movie at the New Glasgow Library (Sept. 6, 6:30 p.m.) is “Epic”, starring the acting voices of Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson and Beyoncé Knowles. About the movie: A teenager finds herself transported to a deep forest setting where a battle between the forces of good and the forces of evil is taking place. She bands together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world and ours.
New Program this fall, Armchair Travellers
Last year the library began a monthly program at our Antigonish Library, called Armchair Travellers. The popular program featured an illustrated presentation by an invited guest sharing their travel experiences from far away exotic places, to some of the hidden gems in our own backyard. This fall, due to the program’s success and by request – we are also extending the Armchair Travellers program to Pictou Library (third Thursday of the month, 7 p.m.), and New Glasgow Library (fourth Thursday of the month). For more information, and if you wish to volunteer to give a presentation or have a suggestion for a topic, please contact Steve at Library HQ, Programming Department (755-6031).
Also new, a Tween Readers Club
A new book club, for those bookworms in-between our Young Readers and Teen Readers (for Grades 7-8/ages 13-15), we have a new Tween Readers book club just for you, starting at the Stellarton Library. Join us at the library for books, chats, discussion and some snacks every second Tuesday of the month (starting Sept. 10) afterschool at 3 p.m. For more information, and to register please call the Stellarton Library (755-1638).
Next week, on Monday, Sept. 12 at 10 a.m., the Seniors Café at the Westville Library returns. Our first session of the new fall season will welcome local artist, Cathy Leeming, as she gives an informal talk about how she became interested in painting along with a demonstration of basic techniques. All are welcome to join us for a lively presentation, some light refreshments and pleasant conversation. Seniors’ Cafés at the library will also be held Monday, Sept. 19 (10 a.m.) at the Pictou Library and the New Glasgow Library on the last Monday of the month, also at 10 a.m.
For more information on upcoming library programs, special events and services, please drop by your local library branch, follow us on Twitter, find us on Facebook, or visit us online at www.parl.ns.ca.
