The New Glasgow 55+ Club recently held their opening monthly meeting beginning the Autumn term. The meeting was called to order by Lola Patterson, club president, who led in the seniors prayer and everyone joined in singing the 55er’s song.
A minute of silence was observed in respect to the memory for our deceased members. Minutes of the last meeting and the financial reports were read and approved.
Patterson welcomed the new membership committee chairperson , Marie Swinamer.
Activities reports were received with enthusiasm by everyone and these activities will get underway immediately beginning at 1pm on their usual day. New players are welcomed into all activities. Sunday evening 45s will commence in October.
Correspondence was read by secretary Carol Ann Johnson.
Patterson reported on the very well attended summer players luncheon held in late August. Plans are underway for a similar mid-winter, members luncheon in late January.
Reports were given on the much anticipated club move to new quarters later this autumn
The 55ers will be going on a fall bus trip in October; many kept Cecilia busy securing their seat for the day trip. Interested in going contact Lola or Cecilia. Tickets will become available to non-members after September 21.
Georgina Carpenter was presented with an Appreciation Certificate as Volunteer of the Month.
The lucky members for the afternoon draw were Joan Addison and Marilyn MacArthur.
Thanks was expressed to volunteers of the day, Jim Gerrior, elevator, Beatrice Ryan, tickets at the door convener, Marie and Gerald , membership, and to Lorraine, Betty, Georgina and Jane who attended to the buffet and to Cecilia for providing the food.
Special afternoon speaker was Summer Lee Burns , PCHA, and she was presented with an appreciation gift, on behalf of the Club.
Next club meeting will be October 9; time and place to be announced. A special speaker will attend and share interesting information for our members.
A buffet lunch was enjoyed to close the afternoon with special observances to members celebrating birthdays in September.
