What would you do with an extra hour in your day or even your week... exercise, sleep, or maybe read a book? Those are all great ways to spend your time, but at Big brothers Big Sisters we might have a different idea for spending your hour. Our In School Mentoring program is one way to not only give back to yourself but also give back to someone else.
For just one hour a week you get to spend time with a child in an elementary school. You check in to the school, the child comes down to meet you and you go and have some fun. You can do any activity you both enjoy, things like crafts, reading, or going to the gym, whatever it is that you do, the important thing is that this child has your undivided attention for an hour.
Households seem to be busier and more hectic, single parents are out there trying to do the job of two people, sometimes the time is just not there in a day to do it all. Children thrive when they get attention that is positive and encouraging. You don’t have to spend money, it is just about the time. We are in many schools around the county and they are great to work with and very supportive of our program. This fall, why not think about doing something for you, go have some fun for that hour in your week, we guarantee you will get as much out of the experience as the child will.
If the In-school mentoring doesn’t fit into your schedule, remember, we have other ways to get involved. We always have a wait list of children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
Our Big Bucks draw is still going strong. Don’t forget, if you registered a number you need to play it each week. Who couldn’t use a little extra cash this time of year? The pot is growing, but you can’t win if you don’t play. We are also excited to once again offer our Annual Grafton Street Dinner Theatre. Each year the show gets better and better. This year it is on Nov. 7 and called “If I Had a Million Dollars.” Call 752-6260 for tickets because they go fast.
If you want more information on our programs or the other things happening at our office please don’t hesitate to call 752-6260 and ask some questions. You can also check out our website at www.bbbsofpc.com .
