On Sept. 29, the Gospel and Song service for The Lodge That Gives in support of Daffodil Place was held at First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton. Welcoming and giving the opening prayer was Rev. Charles McPherson.
Michelle Bohaychuk, campaign manager for Daffodil Place, gave a very informative talk on the campaign funds raised thus far and an overall description of the expansion of the lodge, known as Daffodil Place. She said the lodge has a waiting list and with the expansion this will help more people with accommodations for themselves and family members.
For more than 20 years, the Lodge That Gives has been a refuge for Nova Scotians travelling to Halifax for cancer treatments and appointments. First Presbyterian Church members Innie Dykstra and her sister, Ria MacDonald, spoke on how much the lodge has meant to them: its outgoing support and a safe refuge in times of medical treatments and hospital stays.
Artists performing were Don Haggart, the Gospel Four under the direction of organist Bernice MacDonald, John Spyder Macdonald, Ray Stewart and Doris Mason.
The free will offering with all proceeds going to the lodge raised about $3,000. Rev. McPherson presented Michelle Bohaychuk with a gift on behalf of the Kirk Session of First Church and thanked the various artists for their participation in a very successful concert.
