NEW GLASGOW – The Oct. 8 meeting of Dr. Caroline Carmichael Chapter IODE was held at the UCT building with Jean Arsenault presiding. The flags were placed by Betty Morton.
Secretary Isabel Campbell read the minutes of the September meeting after recording the volunteer hours. Treasurer Gale Langille gave the financial report. Several members met at the home of Muriel George to make tray favours for residents of Glen Haven Manor for Thanksgiving and Halloween.
The chapter has made a donation to the breakfast program of Trenton Elementary School. Members brought money and varied craft items to the meeting to give to the Hillside Girls Club. Education officer Sharon Livingston made both deliveries.
An area conference was held in Truro on Oct. 19 with about a dozen members in attendance. The chapter provided the meal of the Shepherd’s Lunch on Oct. 17. A soup luncheon and card party is planned for Saturday, Oct. 26, at the UCT building.
A shower of kitchen and bathroom items for the Kids First Family Resource Centre will be held at the Nov. 12 meeting. The meeting closed with refreshments and fellowship. The social committee for November is Audrey MacGillivary and Sharon Livington. IODE is Canada’s oldest ladies charitable organization and new members are welcome.
