At the Library - Trecia Schell
The library has lots of holiday classics on hand for you to read together, or to enjoy on your own from “The Grinch who stole Christmas,” “A Christmas Carol,” “The Little Matchstick Girl” to the “Polar Express” and “A Charlie Brown’s Christmas” to name a few. A number of the books have movie adaptions, so you could curl up with the library book and borrow the movie too.
Christmas elves and crafty Saturdays
The 12 Days of Christmas Elves (hidden in our shelves) is in full swing at the Stellarton Library. For the young and young-at-heart, drop by and see if you can spot the new elf every day hidden in the library.
More elfish fun continues on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. at the Pictou Library with weekly Christmas crafting sessions until Dec. 19, and the Advent Calendar at the library has daily door prizes too until Dec. 21.
Also this weekend on Dec. 14, there will be crafty Saturday activities all day long at the River John, Stellarton and Trenton libraries. Drop by the arts and crafts table, and make a special craft to take home.
Seniors Café Christmas parties
Coming up, next Monday it is another double feature at the library with Christmas parties on Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. for both Pictou and New Glasgow Libraries. We will have music, treats and lots of Christmas cheer on hand. All are welcome to join us, and some special invited guests to celebrate the holiday season. (It is BYOM, please ‘bring your own mistletoe.’)
Still looking for the perfect gift for the booklover on your list?
Why not consider a gift that keeps on giving, a new library book? It is the perfect holiday gift for your favorite booklover. When you adopt a book for the library, a special bookplate is added to the cover in recognition of your donation to the public library, in addition there is a gift card for you (or for you to give to the person you're gifting the book too) and the opportunity to read the book first when it arrives at the library.
Also in return for the donations received, as the public library is a charitable organization, a tax receipt may be issued upon request. To participate, drop by any one of our seven branches in Pictou and Antigonish counties, or visit us online at www.parl.ns.ca. This can make a great Holiday gift for that hard-to-buy-for person.
Please note, the library will be closing early, at noon on Christmas Eve (Tuesday, Dec. 24) and will be closed all day on Christmas day and Boxing Day (Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Thursday, Dec. 26). The library will also be closing early at noon on New Year’s Eve (Tuesday, Dec. 31) and will be closed all day on New Year’s Day (Wednesday, Jan. 1).
For more information on upcoming library programs, special events and services, please drop by your local library branch, follow us on Twitter, find us on Facebook, or visit us online at www.parl.ns.ca.
