The New Glasgow 55+ Club held their December meeting in the club room at the New Glasgow Fire Hall. Chairing the meeting was President Lola Patterson. Following an abbreviated business meeting several announcements were read concerning seniors upcoming events.
Members were entertained by The Golden Rustic as they performed a Xmas novelty song â Walking in my itchy Underwearâ dressed in a form of the long underwear of olden days. Then the children from a country school of 1944 entertained in a skit showing how to test you teacherâs patience. And shared their ideas that the largest city in NS was Eureka or maybe Trenton.
They also believed Churchill founded Canada and several other misguided answered to a geography lesson. Several âchildrenâ gave recitation in the style of the 40s. Later Granny Phyllis told her three grandchildren a story of life in Canada in the early 1900âs; teaching the kids what Christmas spirit and trust really means. In a pantomime a mother administrated a good scrubbing to her sonâs neck and ears before letting him go to a Xmas party, much to the enjoyment of the audience. Members then joined the entertainers in a singsong of favorite carols and songs. The clubâs Musical Director Janet Fraser accompanied them at the keyboard.
A visit from Santa and his elves, Lorraine and Ann was welcomed with applause and the visitors from northern climes gave treats to all present.
Everyone enjoyed a social hour and shared the birthday cake for the members born in December.
A âguess the buttons in the jarâ contest was won by Theresa Kenny; and the lucky tickets for other afternoon draws went to Bernice Colbourne and Lorraine Taylor.
Patterson thanked Margaret and Brian Casey and Lillian Gredzen for looking after the kitchen and buffet, Beatrice Ryan who attended the door duties. Thanks also to Doris Wong and Eileen McGillivray for bringing sandwiches for the table.
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to Betty Jennex, Lorraine Taylor, Jane Ivany ,Rose Webber, Beatrice Ryan and Georgina Carpenter for faithfully looking after the Sunday evenings card social.
The Clubâs Xmas bingo will occur on December 13 at 1:30 and it will be a âbring a friend bingoâ in the spirit of the Christmas season.
The 55+ Club will be on a Xmas holidays from December 20 until January 5 when Sunday evening cards will resume for the New year.
The next meeting will be on February 5, 2014, at 1:30. New members welcome.
