All next week, drop by and discover your library! All our programs and activities are free - try out a computer, build with some LEGO, follow a scavenger hunt, go on a Crazy Science Adventure, paint a mural, watch a movie, create a puppet, make a scrapbook and more.

 

Saturday’s silliness

Scavenger hunt anyone? Drop by the Stellarton Library all this March Break week and pick up a list of clues - to discover a hidden leprechaun's treasure at the library (with prizes to take home). The Pictou Library has a Saturday movie matinee, “Free Birds” will be shown at on March 8 at 1 p.m.

 

Tuesday’s creative adventure

We have two writing workshops with Sheree Fitch, our Writer-in-Residence @Library at the New Glasgow Library on March 11 – for tweens (ages 12-14) from 10 a.m. to noon, and for teens (ages 15-18) from 1-3 p.m. (please call to pre-register, 752-8233).

The Stellarton Library is having a ‘mad scientist adventure’ from 1-2:30 p.m., with Kristel our Children’s Services Librarian (for ages 8-12, and it will be messy! Please call to pre-register, 755-1638).

The Pictou Library has a whole action-packed afternoon, starting with a pirate party (for ages 4-8) from 1-2:30 p.m., needle felting with Ms. Ruth (age 9+) and a family PJ party at 6 p.m. (space is limited for all programs at the Pictou Library, call to pre-register, 485-5021).

 

Wednesday is wacky!

Starting off the day on March 12 at 10 a.m. we have ‘Silly Science’ at the New Glasgow Library (ages 8 to 12, pre-registration required). Join us for hands-on science and make a bouncy ball, create a volcanic explosion and more (it will be messy, again!).

In the afternoon, the live science show with the Discovery Centre returns at 1:30 p.m. This year's theme is “Up” – All things are on the up and up...floating, lifting, blasting off and flying, including helicopter balloons, rocket balloons, rocket launchers and bouncy balls and more. 

All day today, it is Puppet Day at the Stellarton Library. Drop-in 'as you wish' and visit our Arts & Crafts table to create your own puppets, free to take home. And you are welcome to share your puppets by putting on a show at the library! In Pictou, at the library there is an afternoon of cake decoration at 1 p.m. (ages 9+) and rug-hooking (ages 8+) at 3 p.m. All supplies are provided, and pre-registration is necessary (485-5021).

 

Thursday’s Hodge-Podge

On March 13 at 10:30 a.m., it’s a ‘paint-exploration adventure’ at the New Glasgow Library (ages 5-9; pre-registration required). Join us to make a mural in the library with all kinds of paints, and you can paint a picture to take home too. Followed by a crafter-noon drop-in for kids from 1-5 p.m., to make a craft, build with LEGO, or play a board game with new friends. The Stellarton Library is having a ‘paint it!’ day, all day at our arts and crafts table. A drop-in ‘as you wish’ program and discover your inner Picasso or maybe a Monet!

 

The Westville Library has an afternoon drop-in program from 1:30–2:30 p.m. with a ‘silly science’ adventure and a visit with the 3Dprinter. Join us for a fun hands-on science activities with Kristel, our Children's' Services Librarian, and print your own trinket from the 3D printer to take home (for more information, 396-5022). And today is a celebration of puppets at the Pictou Library, starting off the afternoon with a puppet-making session at 1 p.m., a “Leprechaun’s Gold” puppet show at 3 p.m., and a teddy bear sleepover at 6 p.m.

 

It’s Friday!

Start off the day on March 14 in Pictou with a Digital Photography workshop for kids at 10:30 a.m. or maybe a family dtorytime (for St. Patrick’s Day) at 11a.m. at the Stellarton Library. In the afternoon we have two art workshops at the Pictou Library, ‘Art with Kris Larson’ starting at 1 p.m., followed by ‘Scrapbooking with Dorothy’ at 3 p.m.

To finish off the day it’s Friday Night Movies @Library at the New Glasgow Library with a 6:30 p.m. screening of the Hunger Games movie“Catching Fire” (PG-13).

 

The Last Day

As they say, all good things must come to an end, including March Break. So we finish off the week with a “Crafty Saturday,” all day at the Trenton Library on March 15. Drop by our open arts and crafts table to make a craft to take home.

At the Pictou Library we have a family storytime at 10:30 a.m, followed by a silly science session at 2 p.m. of ‘Thoroughly Creative Chemistry’ a fun-hands on science program with Sabrina and Jennifer (please call to pre-register, 485-5021).
