The congregation of First United Church, Trenton with the Young People are planning The Great Vigil of Easter. This service is the first service of Easter, because we of the Judeo-Christian tradition have inherited the Jewish custom of telling time by days that begin at sundown. At sundown on Holy Saturday, our Easter celebration begins and continues into Sunday, ending on Sunday at sunset. There will be a bonfire on the sidewalk at the church entrance to light the New Fire of Resurrection Light. A brand new Christ Candle will be lit from the new fire. Young instrumentalists, actors and dancers will illuminate the glory of the Resurrection in a play of light and shadows, enacting in simple form the stories of the Creation of the world, Noah and the Flood, the Crossing of the Red Sea, the Nativity of Jesus and the triumph of Light in the Resurrection. Come in time to catch the bonfire at 7 pm on Saturday, April 19th. All are welcome.
