May is Asian Heritage month, a time of year when we celebrate Asian culture as well as recognize the history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to our country. This month is also a very significant month for the Multicultural Association of Pictou County (MAPC) as they mark their fifth anniversary.
Incorporated in April 2009, MAPC kicked off their first ever function the next month and haven't looked back.
MAPC was initially started by a handful of people who wanted to create an association to bring newcomers together. Today the Multicultural Association has grown to around 450 members, between those on MAPC's mailing list and their Facebook page. While some of its members are from different cultural backgrounds, everyone is welcome to join the association and to partake in its activities.
Throughout the year MAPC hosts many events, two of their larger functions being the International Cooking classes and annual Fusion Festival. For more information on the Multicultural Association of Pictou County you can go to www.multiculturalpc.ca or check out the MAPC Facebook page.
