The vision of a major construction and renovation is fast becoming a reality. In a matter of a few more months we will be moving into the new center core of the building. The last two phases have gone well. Residents have transitioned from the ARC to the three Group Homes on site and to the new South Wing. It will be a lot of work; however, we are thrilled to move forward.
The third annual “Walk the Walk for Autism” will take place in Stellarton, at G.R. Saunders Elementary School, on Saturday June 14. Residents and staff from Riverview will be participating. It should be a great day including; bouncy castles, silent auction, BBQ, carnival games and activities. It will be a fun day for the entire family.
An awards night at Summer Street Industries is planned for tonight. Many of our residents will receive awards for their hard work over the past year. Also, three of our residents will be recognized for years of work, culminating in their well -deserved retirement. Congratulations.
The annual fishing outing at Lansdowne Outdoor Recreational Development Association will take place this Saturday, June 7. Our residents look forward to this all year. The Leese family of Westville have created this haven nestled in 300 acres of lush forest, for disabled people and seniors to enjoy. We always enjoy the fish tales that follow this special day.
We would like to extend special thanks to Trinity United Church, New Glasgow, for providing church service to our residents this Sunday. When the construction is complete, and we have a working elevator, our attendance will increase 100%.
The residents have been planting flowers in our outdoor boxes and we are anticipating the summer barbecues to be starting soon. Several residents have placed their requests once again for attending Camp Reachability in Cape Breton. We will be having the summer students starting June 30th. The residents love the extra attention from the students and enjoy all of the special events and outing planned for them.
Last week-end, some of our residents participated in the Special Olympics Track Meet, in Antigonish. It was a fun-filled day and of course the highlight is showing everyone their medals. We have a ball tournament planned for June 20-22 in Antigonish and the Provincial Track and Swim meet.
We continue to enjoy being able to share what is happening here at Riverview with the community, via articles published by the News.
Our vision and commitment at Riverview continues to be to help provide “a full and meaningful life for people with diverse abilities”.
