A surprise! Everyone loves a surprise and we at Riverview have been given a wonderful gift.
The construction crew have been working diligently to make things ready for our next move; however, we do not have a definite move date as yet.
Construction has made it impossible for the residents to enjoy the grounds at all. There is no safe seating area outside for the residents from the main building to sit and enjoy the good weather.
The idea of an “urban park” came up and was discussed. There is quite a good sized parking lot at the front of the building and an idea was put forward to use this area as an “urban park”.
The Riverview Volunteer Association loved the idea and donated $2,000 towards this project. We send a heartfelt thank you to Central Builders and Proudfoots for their support and generosity.
Riverview maintenance crew helped with pick up, delivery and set-up for the park and our grounds budget helped with pots, dirt and flowers.
Suddenly the view from the front door of the South Wing has been transformed. Shade areas have been erected, red and yellow rocking chairs are in place, bright orange and green umbrellas over tables for seating dot the landscape and large pots of pink wave petunias beautify the park.
A large new barbecue awaits the first warm day and we will plan a barbeque for all the residents. Old friends from the group homes will be able to come for a visit and have lunch. This wonderful addition towards quality of life is currently being enjoyed by residents and staff. Again, our thanks to all involved.
Summer students have been interviewed and hired and will begin June 30th. We enjoy a flurry of extra fun with these students to help our recreation department with special summer activities over the next eight weeks.
Several residents enjoyed a day trip to Sherbrooke Village and also some residents travelled to Victoria Park in Truro.
We continue to enjoy being able to share what is happening here at Riverview with the community via articles published by the News.
Our vision and commitment at Riverview continues to be to help provide “a full and meaningful life for people with diverse abilities.”
