As part of Stellarton Homecoming Week activities an alumni group will celebrate at the farm home of Leo and Sara Thompson in Plymouth this weekend. This is the 60th anniversary year for the Stellarton High School class of 1954. Leo is one of the 1954 grads. The reunion is happening this Friday and Saturday.
In 1954, 24 young people graduated from Stellarton High School – 12 young men and 12 young women (or boys and girls as they would have been seen by the older people of the day). Some went out to seek their fortunes in the military, in the banking industry or other places of employment while others went on to further study.
Ten years ago all 24 grads were living somewhere in Canada, from Glace Bay to Port Alberni, B.C., and in various places in between. Twenty-one classmates along with family members gathered to celebrate their silver jubilee in 2004.
Although the grads are fewer in number this year, several look forward to visiting and telling stories to one another, enjoying a good time together in the process.
The Stellarton High class of 1964 is marking a jubilee year this weekend and they will be joining the 1954 grads in an ecumenical celebration of the Eucharist at Christ Anglican Church, Stellarton, at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Rev. Aidan Kingsbury will preside and Rev. David MacLean, both 1954 SHS grads, will preside. All who wish to attend are welcome.
