STELLARTON - A session for high school students who want to learn more about St. Francis Xavier University has been set for later this month.
Now in its sixth year, the information is also valuable for students who might attend other post-secondary institutions, says Paul Fraser, St. FX Alumni Chapter President in Pictou County.
"Information will be presented by the provincial student assistance office as well as the Learning Centre at X - they will present information on the transition from high school to post-secondary and the challenges it presents and how to meet them head on," Fraser said.
The session will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 23 at the Museum of Industry in Stellarton.
The session is targeted at high school students and their parents and will provide in-depth information to students and their parents regarding options and tips for those wanting to attend university.
Grade 10 and 11 students will learn what things they should be considering regarding course and level selection if they are planning on going to university or obtaining a scholarship of bursary, while Grade 12 students will learn what's available to help them get accepted easier and allow for a better chance at scholarships or student loans.
University officials will be present from the Admissions Office, scholarship department, academic deans, The Writing Centre as well as staff from the Provincial Student Assistant Office.

What an excellent idea and initiative - especially by a volunteer!
