PICTOU - A 28-year-old New Glasgow woman has been fined $600 for her part in a drug dealing business.
Beatrice Ellen Lochead was also placed on 12 months of probation and ordered to be assessed and take counselling, if necessary, for substance abuse.
Lochead and her common-law husband Maynard Anthony Richards were arrested in a taxi on the corner of James and Forbes streets last March.
Drug prosecutor Ed Patterson said they had just left their Forbes Street apartment but had been staying at the Heather Hotel because they suspected they were under police surveillance
Richards, who will be sentenced in November, had a quantity of crack cocaine on his person when he was arrested and it, combined with more found in the apartment, had a total value of $2,200.
A pre-sentence report on Lochead said she did not take responsibility for the charge against her but at her defence lawyer's request she told the court she maintains her guilty plea. The report indicated Lochead left school after Grade 8 because she had problems with people in authority, enjoys good health, has never held a job, lives on social assistance and volunteers with a local children's agency.
