NEW GLASGOW – The New Glasgow Jubilee will be kicking off a Battle of the Bands competition this week and the competition comes with a raft of prizes, including the opening spot on the Jubilee main stage for its Aug. 3-5 event. “We’re really thrilled to be launching this event in the lead-up to the main event that gives new bands the chance to play the Jubilee,” says executive director Carlton Munroe. “Plus, we have a number of amazing industry partners who are coming forward to really sweeten the prize pot.” In addition to an opening spot on the Jubilee main stage the winning band will get a spot at one of the Late Night Stages and at the Jubilee kick-off party. Devcom Artist Development and Codapop Recording Studios will track and produce a radio-ready single for the winner, which will then be promoted by Spincount Music and Promotions in an attempt to get radio play for the winning band’s single. Bands will be able to begin submitting entries this week by going to the Jubilee Facebook page and submitting the online form. Bands must submit a bio, high-resolution photo, music video and $20 entry fee. The video is key as this is the main way each band can garner votes in hopes of moving on to the next stage, which is the “Battle Royale” at Glasgow Square Theatre on May 26.
“The video is critical,” says Munroe. “This is where it’s important to be creative and really show the band’s chops and why they should be on the Jubilee stage.”
The video must be a maximum five minutes in length. Fans will be able to begin viewing and voting for their favourite bands on April 26 and can vote daily until the contest closes on May 16. The top four vote-getters will automatically go through to the Battle Royale and a fifth “Wild Card” band will be selected by the Jubilee Board as a band that is deserving but didn’t garner quite enough votes. The competition is open to all bands that have not previously played the Jubilee main stage. All genres of music are welcome.
