Nine headstones - some belonging to veterans - were knocked over at the Lorne Street Cemetery in New Glasgow overnight Monday.
A cemetery trustee says there's no estimate on the amount of damage that's been done at the site yet, but some of the headstones were damaged and will need repairs.
Jack Fraser says some of the headstones that were damaged are more than 40 years old.
Police are investigating.

OMG with the state of the world today, and the pictures of all the young men that have died in Afganistan in the Chronicle Herald yesterday - you would think there would be a TAD of respect for those who are gone, but not forgotten with these memorials. Not only to do it in the first place but on the eve of the day that we celebrate our freedom! Tsk, Tsk. I hope the offenders are found and they are held accountable.

That is shameful, the people that have fought in the wars and today with all that is going on in the world that people would have some respect for the ones that gave there lives for us. The one's that done this should be put behind bars for the mistreating of our cemerty. But you know God knows who they all are and the will pay on judgement day.. they will have to answer to the Lord in time God Bless

I'd rather have the cops picking up speeders then patrolling cemeteries, speed/reckless driving kills, vandalism in most cases doesn't.
However, it is quite disappointing people have nothing to do then destroy other peoples property.

Perhaps the NG police could spend sometime and effort in catching there idiots that are vandalizing our Town and spraay painting everything instead of picking on drivers on the East River Rd

I like Robert's idea...A reward leading to the arrest of the culprit(s). I would be willing to put up $100....anybody else?.....If we get enough people together we could be on to something here.

The police cannot be everywhere all the time, they do have jobs & priorities they have to look after.
They should never have to patrol a cemetary of all things

What a sad, shameful and mindless act of disrespect, and on Remembrance Day of all days.
Surveillance cameras have become inexpensive and the cost would be worth it to put those responsible in the slammer! A reward should be offered for information leading to the apprehension of the cowardly hooligan.
