A Pictou County man accused of first degree murder will be spending Christmas in custody.
Bernard Frederick Hartling, 35, was lead into a packed courtroom Thursday morning, filled with his family members and the family members of the victim, Kenneth Gregory McNamara, 30.
Hartling was arrested last week in the Nov. 14 death of McNamara, who was found dead on the Glen Road East in Central Caribou outside of his home.
Hartling, who had been remanded into custody at the Burnside Correctional Facility after his arraignment last week, will remain there for more than a month.
Supreme Court Justice Nick Scaravelli continued a no contact order issued by the provincial court last week, which forbids Hartling to have contact with a long list of potential witnesses, including members of McNamara's family and his pregnant girlfriend. Exceptions on the list included members of Hartling's own family.
The show cause hearing will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 7.
