PICTOU - A Pictou toddler has cut off nearly a ruler's length of hair to help other children.
Bobbi Shaw-Gosselin, 4, donated 29.5 centimetres of her hair to Mississauga-based organization Angel Hair for Kids, which provides wigs to Canadian children whose parents can't afford to purchase them.
Her mother, Barb Shaw, had been kidding her daughter about donating her hair about a year ago.
"I told her, 'It's getting long, we'll have to cut it and donate it'," Shaw said. "We were just joking about it, but she took it really seriously."
From then on, her mind was made up, and on Friday, her dream came true. Shaw took Bobbi to A Head of Hair in Pictou to cut 29.5 cms to donate, as well as trimming off an additional few centimetres. It was her first haircut.
"She'd had it trimmed before, but never anything like this," added Shaw.
"She was so happy. She's a very grateful kid and was so happy to get the chance to make other kids happy."
Bobbi is hoping her decision to donate her hair - a project she plans to repeat in the future - will inspire other children. Shaw brought her daughter to her preschool to show her friends the hair she was donating before they sent it off in the mail.
