NEW?GLASGOW - A bouncing baby boy was the first child born in Pictou County in the new decade, arriving nearly three weeks early to become the first baby born in 2010.
New mom Kimberley Connors of New Glasgow wasn't due until Jan. 19 and never expected her baby would be the first one born in the county this year.
But Connors went into labour suddenly while babysitting her sister's children, explained new dad, Aaron Hayden.
"We ended up having a police escort to the hospital," he said. "We called her sister to come home when her water broke and they didn't, so we called the police to go get them at the bar and pick them up. When they brought them home, they escorted us to the hospital."
James Justin Hayden Connors arrived at 8:17 p.m. on Jan. 1, weighing in at seven pounds and nine ounces. Mom and baby are doing well and the new parents say they're thrilled their son was the first baby born in 2010.
"It's very exciting," said Hayden.
