STELLARTON - A Stellarton youth recently attended the War Amps 2009 Atlantic Child Amputee (CHAMP) Seminar in Moncton, N.B.
Born a partial left-hand amputee, Ryan Sloan, 18, attended the three-day seminar, which dealt with all aspects of growing up as an amputee.
Sloan was a Junior Counsellor at the seminar, offering advice and answering questions for young Champs and their families.
In one seminar session, Champs demonstrated their standard and recreational artificial limbs and devices to the group.
"The seminar is a life-changing experience for both Champs and parents," said War Amps CEO Cliff Chadderton.
"It's a packed weekend covering everything from raising an amputee child to dealing with teasing and staring, to seeing the latest developments in artificial limbs."
At the seminar, Sloan was presented with a CHAMP Ambassador Certificate for participating in several projects for The War Amps Operation Legacy, which passes on the NEVER AGAIN! message from war amputee veterans to the younger generation.
