HALIFAX - A search is underway for five fishermen whose vessel has capsized off the southwest coast of Nova Scotia.
A navy spokesman says the 13-metre boat, based in Nova Scotia's Shelburne County, had a crew of five on board when it sent out a distress signal at 11 p.m. Sunday.
Lt. Peter Ryan says two Canadian Coast Guard vessels and a helicopter were dispatched to the area, about 120 kilometres southeast of Liverpool.
He says the crew aboard a U.S. coast guard aircraft reported spotting a life-raft, but he couldn't offer further details.
Ryan says weather conditions were poor at the time the distress beacon was picked up.
He says hurricane force winds whipped up 10-metre waves in zero visibility.
