OTTAWA - The front forks on several models of bicycles are being recalled because the structures can break, posing a fall hazard, Health Canada said Thursday.
The recall involves front forks on all models of the 2012 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Tarmac SL4, 2013 Crux and 2013 Secteur Disc bicycles and frame sets.
The Canadian distributor, Specialized Canada Inc. of Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Que., has received two reports in the U.S. of the front fork steerer tube breaking, including one incident that resulted in facial injuries and cuts requiring stitches.
Two incidents were reported in Canada, but no injuries occurred, the company said.
Health Canada has not received any report of incidents or injuries to Canadians related to the use of these bicycle forks.
Almost 665 of the bicycle forks, which were manufactured in Taiwan, were sold at authorized Specialized bicycle retailers in Canada between August 2011 and last month.
Consumers should immediately stop riding an affected bike and return it to a Specialized retailer for a no-charge inspection and repair.
