NEW GLASGOW - The occupants of a two-unit building on Albion Street in New Glasgow escaped injury during a fire at the address Monday morning.
Albion Street resident Edgar Hart said he woke around 4:00 a.m. and saw the house engulfed in flames and firefighters were on their way.
The fire apparently began in the basement of the building, located at 44 Albion Street, said fire chief Doug Dort. Frigid January temperatures and the design of the building posed challenges for firefighters on scene. As to the cause, Dort said it's being investigated.
According to neighbours, the building right next door to where Monday's fire occurred also caught fire about two years ago, though the damage to it was much less extensive.
