HALIFAX - A Nova Scotia man has been convicted of murder in the 2007 beating death of Philip Love.
Shane Ward, 35 and his brother Matthew Ward, 34, were both charged with second-degree murder, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
On Monday, a Nova Scotia Supreme Court jury found Shane Ward guilty on all counts, but his brother was convicted only of assault.
Second-degree murder carries an automatic life sentence, but Justice Felix Cacchione asked the jury to deliberate a recommendation for parole eligibility.
They came back with no recommendation and the judge then asked for a pre-sentence report for Shane Ward before his next court appearance on April 1.
Love was beaten inside his Halifax-area home on Jan. 8, 2007.
He suffered critical head injuries and died a week later in hospital.
