WESTVILLE – The Westville Policing Service has issued an alert to the public of a scam that is circulating.

The scam involves people selling items online who are receiving payment cheques from buyers that are made out for amounts larger than the purchase price. The buyer then requests the seller to cash the cheque and return the excess funds with the item purchased.

The police are warning that these requests are not legitimate and the cheques have the potential of not clearing the bank, leaving the seller with a large loss of funds plus the item sold.
