STELLARTON – Kids can have lots of fun this March Break at the Museum of Industry.
Activities there from March 13 to 21 will be train-themed. Kids can climb aboard the new Kids Train, complete with engine, passenger car and circus car, join the circus as an acrobat, lion or clown and build train bridges and help construct the museum’s Train Town.
The museum will open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout March Break, where programs geared towards each age group will run throughout the day. They include:
- Train Town – 9 a.m.-noon, ages seven-12. The Lego “Emerald Night” train is running down the tracks and kids can help build the town around it. Drop by in the morning to add their creation, sure to be popular with any Lego maniacs.
- Building Bridges – 1-4 p.m., for ages seven-12. Young engineers must meet the challenge of building a sturdy railroad bridge. Will it hold the weight or come crashing down? Kids can test their construction savvy each afternoon.
- Circus Train – 9:30-10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., 1:30-2:30 p.m., ages five-10. The circus has come to town, and the Museum of Industry needs kids to make it work. Kids can jump on board the Children’s Train and try some juggling, make a mask and act out the role of acrobat, lion, clown, engineer and other circus characters.
- Meet the Trains – 11-11:30 a.m., 1-1:30 p.m., 3-3:30 p.m., ages three to six. Younger children will enjoy a treasure hunt tour through the museum’s galleries, meeting famous trains as they go.
Children under five years will also find lots to do in the museum’s activity area, playing in the sandbox and building with Lego Duplo train tracks.
Local libraries are also gearing up for a number of kid-centric activities next week. The events will feature Lego Masters, magic shows and crafts for all ages. Call your local library or visit www.parl.ns.ca.
