NEW GLASGOW – Once again, daily newspapers have demonstrated their value to Canadians, and The News is no exception.
According to a study released Wednesday by NADbank (Newspaper Audience Databank), the principal research arm of the Canadian daily newspaper industry, over three-quarters (77 per cent or 14.7 million) of adults living in markets where a daily newspaper is available read either a printed or online edition each week.
In the area served by The News (all of Pictou County), the cumulative weekly audience, which measures the total number of unique readers, for the print and online editions combined stood at a robust 20,500.
The five-day (Monday to Friday) cumulative audience was 18,400 while our Saturday readership stood at 12,600. Unique online visitors for the week stood at 5,300.
The gender breakdown of The News readers shows 11,100 females compared to 9,400 males. Just over half of our readers (10,400) are between the ages of 18 and 49, compared to 10,100 who are 50 and over.
In addition, 95 per cent of readers 'usually' or 'sometimes' read our local news, making this the most popular section of the paper, ahead of provincial/national news (83 per cent), world news (82 per cent) and our editorials (79 per cent).
NADbank designs and conducts research in Canadian urban markets to provide cost effective and accurate in-depth marketing information for its members to assist in the buying and selling of daily newspaper advertising in Canada.
