VALLEY - Two men are being treated at Colchester Regional Hospital following a plane crash in a residential area this morning.
"They sustained what we believe to be non-life-threatening injuries," RCMP District Commander Jay McInnis said from the scene. "They're still at hospital as we speak, being examined and treated."
The plane, a single-engine American Champion Explorer, crashed directly behind a house in a populated area on Hillridge Drive, shortly after take off around 7 a.m.
Although police did not release the identities of the two men on board, the Daily News has learned the plane was piloted by Truro lawyer Jim Stonehouse. The passenger is also believed to be a local resident.
McInnis said the plane was enroute to Ontario with a couple of planned stops in between.
There was no immediate cause for the crash, which is being investigated by the Transportation Safety Board.
"We're not clear on that and it's probably not best to speculate on that," McInnis said, adding that police had yet to speak with the pilot. "We don't believe at this point there are any criminal issues arising."
