HOPEWELL – Music, food and fun are on the agenda for this weekend’s Hopewell Ceilidh.
Now in its 19th year, the Aug. 8 event will be kicked off with a parade that leaves the church at 12:45 p.m. and makes its way to the park.
A full line-up of entertainment is planned for the afternoon, said John Currie, one of the organizers. Four hours of music will be provided by Fleur Mainville, the Old-Time Fiddlers, Robyn Foote, Tait’s Hill, Mike Veniot, Bradley MacPherson and the Girls, Charlie Kendall and Randy Haines and The Homegrown Band, starting at 2 p.m. and running to 6 p.m.
There will also be plenty of food available, including turkey suppers, hot dogs and hamburgers.
The organizing committee is just hoping for sunny skies to make the event a success, he said.
“Hopefully Mother Nature will co-operate,” Currie said. “We’ve been lucky, we’ve had a couple of good years with the weather.”
Admission to the ceilidh is free of charge – donations are accepted – and all are welcome, Currie added.
“We’re hoping to have a good crowd,” he said. “That’s what keeps us doing it. It’s good to have something out in the country, there’s so much that happens in the town that we country folk get forgotten about sometimes. The village is really looking good and we’re happy to have everyone come out and see it.”
