STELLARTON – Local high school students had the opportunity to learn about entrepreneurship following a seminar held in Stellarton recently.
Organized by the St. Francis Xavier University Enterprise Development Centre, the annual Youth Entrepreneurship Seminar brought together students in grades 9-12 from across northeastern Nova Scotia.
Participating high school students had the opportunity to hear from real life youth entrepreneurs, attend three workshops focused around networking, marketing and elevator pitches, and learn about all the resources that are available in the area.
Some of resources discussed included Regional Development Authorities, the Student in Business Program offered by local Community Business Development Corporations (CBDC), and the programs and resources of the St. FX Enterprise Development Centre.
“When we deliver programs around youth entrepreneurship, we not only show them that entrepreneurship is a viable career option, we also provide them with a skill set that allows them to compete in a today’s competitive economic environment,” said Melissa MacMaster, the youth entrepreneurship coordinator for the centre.
The program teaches leadership and business skills, she said.
“Students learn how to run a business the right way with the right tools - we set them up to succeed.”
