PICTOU – A local non-profit group is trying to take advantage of one of the biggest rivalries in the NHL.

When the Montreal Canadiens and the Toronto Maple Leafs take to the ice at the Air Canada Centre Saturday night, fans of the two teams will join together at the Pictou Fire Hall for what organizers promise will be a spirited evening of good fun and friendly competition.

Men’s Hockey Night in Pictou, hosted by the Father Gerald MacKenzie Council 8608 of Knights of Columbus, will begin at 7 p.m. at the fire hall on Church Street. Tickets are $10 and includes the snacks and pizza as well as ticket for raffle draw on a 43-inch flat screen TV.

Participants are encouraged to dress in their favourite team costume or jersey and come out and cheer for their team while watching the game on the wide screens.

Tickets to the Men’s Hockey Night in Pictou also include admission into the Knights of Columbus annual pancake and sausage breakfast at Stella Maris Church Hall in Pictou from 7:30 to 11 a.m. The breakfast is held in conjunction with the Pictou Winter Carnival taking place in the Shiretown this weekend. Cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children for people who aren’t attending the hockey night event.

Tickets for both events are available from members of the Knights of Columbus. For more information contact either Mike Currie or Fred Dobson.
