NEW GLASGOW - Audition workshops will be held in January for teens interested in auditioning for a one-act play called “I Don’t Want to Talk About It” by Bradley Hayward.

Actress Amanda Jefferson-Gillis will direct the project with the goal of staging the play at Glasgow Square in March and possibly entering it in the One-Act Play Fest at the Bauer Theatre in Antigonish Mar. 15 -17.

Jefferson-Gillis studied theatre at Acadia University and is a currently a resident of Stellarton. She has starred in two one-woman shows this past summer, including “2 Hours in a Madhouse: An evening with the Notorious Nellie Bly” and “The Belle of Amherst.”

This play is a series of monologues and scenes, which examines the everyday challenges of growing up.

“’I Don’t Want to Talk About It’ focuses mainly on adolescent experiences,” said Jefferson-Gillis. “There are some very funny scenes and some moving and tragic as well.”

In the audition workshops, actors will have a chance to participate in theatre games, exercises and read excerpts from the script to facilitate casting.

Those who are interested should have a keen interest in acting and a willingness to commit a significant amount of time and energy to the rehearsal process.

“It’s a great opportunity to get on the stage and act, gain experience and confidence,” she said.

Rehearsals will begin the second week of January. Cast members are expected to attend two or three rehearsals per week throughout January, February and March.

The audition workshops begin Saturday, Jan. 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at NSCC Pictou Campus. Youth 13- to 18-years-old who would like to audition are encouraged to register with Jefferson-Gillis by calling 752-6824 or by e-mail at agillis38@yahoo.ca.
