The old Mortimer building in Pictou which once served as an Oddfellows Hall has been demolished. Little was left of the building today.

I cannot believe it! How could this have been allowed to happen?! The Mortimer/Norway House has incredible historical importance to Pictou, the County and Province. Indeed, it might be considered one of the most important links with the history of this country given that it was the summer residence of Lord Strathcona the man who drove the last spike to connect the CPR line across Canada, a man who contributed amazingly to educational and other projects (McGill, women's education, politics, creation of the Province of Manitoba, builder of the Hudson's Bay Company, and so many other things. For heaven's sake, who could possible despise our history so much! Shame! Shame!
What a sin as it was (the older part) a gorgeous building on beautiful piece of land - minus the eyesore (pulp mill) across the water.........

I thought for some reason this was a heritage building. Maybe I am mistaken. It was a nice old building.
