The 4.4-megawatt project, a partnership with the Eskasoni band in Cape Breton, will be located on the same site as three earlier, similar-sized turbines that received approval last February.
"I am pleased that both of these First Nation communities are interested in helping to diversify and transform Nova Scotia's electricity system," Truro Bible Hill MLA Lenore Zann said, in a new release issued this morning, on behalf of Energy Minister Charlie Parker.
"We commend both Millbrook and Eskasoni for seeing the benefits of the COMFIT program, which will help create local economic opportunities while generating clean energy."
The two additional turnbines had originally been proposed for the Harmony Camden area. That proposal was shelved, however, after the applicants ran into strong, vocal protest from residents in the community.
Millbrook and Eskasoni are working together on the required grid-impact study and federal and provincial environmental assessments, as well as a community engagement strategy,” the release said.
Construction is expected to be finished in 2014.
