TRURO – griculture Minister John MacDonell expressed sadness over the passing of former Nova Scotia Agricultural College co-president Dr. Bernie MacDonald.   MacDonald died Tuesday at the age of 66.   MacDonald was a guiding force at the Nova Scotia Agriculture College for 18 years and was instrumental in shaping NSAC into the world-class institution it is today.   "Bernie was a true gentleman with a passion for the benefits of agricultural education and a gift for inspiring his staff and students," the minister said in a news release. "On behalf of the entire province, particularly the agricultural community, I offer sincere condolences to Bernie's wife Ann and their children during this difficult time."   MacDonald retired last spring after a long and successful career with the public service. Bernie was an educator for more than four decades, having taught for nearly 20 years at the Nova Scotia Teachers College, including fulfilling the role as acting principal, as well as many years as a secondary teacher.   MacDonald was born and raised in Shubenacadie and attended Hants East Rural High School. He was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Teachers College, the University of Maine and West Virginia University from which he received a doctorate in education.
