NEW GLASGOW – The YMCA is launching the Lung Association’s Learn to Run program for smokers, on Wednesday, which is also Weedless Wednesday.

“We thought it would be appropriate to start sign-up for this program during National Non-Smoking week. This program is for recent quitters, who wish to become more physically active, and train to walk or run a five-km distance and it is a great fit with our programming,” says Dave McIntyre, general manager of the YMCA.

The program focuses on improving physical fitness while educating participants about the benefits of exercise, proper nutrition, tobacco cessation and other useful topics. The aim is to finish the eight-week program with participation in the Johnny Miles 5 km run. This program begins in April 2013. If interested, please contact Laura Leahy, HFR director at 752-0202.

This should all start with not allowing smoking on the Y - Wellness Centre property. It is discouraging to walk in or our of the facility and have second hand smoke hanging in the air near the main doors and "butts" on the ground. It is a great new complex with great services lets keep the "well" in the wellness centre. Thanks !
