A 26-year-old man was seriously injured at the Scotsburn Lumber Mill yesterday.

Chrissy Matheson, spokesperson for the Department of Labour and Advanced Education confirmed her department is investigating a workplace accident at the mill.

She said the young man was taken to hospital with significant injuries by EHS.

Investigators were at the mill much of Friday talking with coworkers of the man and employers to try to determine what happened.

“Apparently he was working on piece of equipment that had sensors. At one point a latch let go and resulted in injuries,” Matheson said.

She said she didn’t know any more details about what happened than that and was not sure about the current condition of the man. RCMP Const. Bryce Haight said the man’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

The mill, which formerly operated as Ligni Bel is owned now by Northern Pulp.
