PICTOU – A Truro man has pleaded guilty to stealing a tractor trailer loaded with $200,000 worth of liquor.

Stephen Joseph Dakota Maloney, 21, entered guilty pleas Monday in Pictou provincial court on single counts of mischief, theft of a motor vehicle and theft over $5,000.

One count of mischief and two counts of possession of property obtained by a crime where withdrawn by the Crown.

He will be sentenced in Pictou on April 3.

Maloney was arrested in November 2012 following a police investigation into the theft of a 53-foot-long trailer containing $200,000 worth of liquor that was stolen from Westville Road in the Mount William area of Pictou County.

RCMP in Pictou County were advised of the theft shortly after 5:30 a.m. on Nov. 25 and following an investigation by members of the Street Crime Enforcement Units in Pictou and Colchester County, along with assistance from an RCMP helicopter, two men were later arrested near the trailer.

The stolen tractor was spotted from the air at an undisclosed location in Belmont while the trailer was located a short time later.

Thomas Logan MacLeod, 23, of Belmont will return to court March 4 to enter pleas on the same six charges that Maloney faced.

A third man will have his first court appearance in February.
