Nominations are open for the 2013 Sobey Art Award. This $50,000 award is given annually to a Canadian artist, age 40 or under, who has exhibited in a public or commercial art gallery within 18 months of being nominated.
Five finalists will be chosen and announced in June. An exhibition of works by the five shortlisted artists will be showcased at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia from this October to January 2014.
The winner of the Sobey Art Award will be announced at a gala in Halifax in November.
The curatorial advisory panel is made up of five representatives from a Canadian art gallery in each of five regions: the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Ontario, the Prairies and the North, West Coast and Yukon.
All nominations will be reviewed by the curatorial advisory panel, which will determine the long and short lists as well as the final winner of the award.
The deadline for nominations is March 1.
